The
Opening Ceremonies for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games will air on NBC on
the evening of Feb. 7, in a mega-million dollar telecast that will
feature the U.S. team in all of their grandma-costumed glory.
NBC’s
7:30 p.m. EST airing of the Ceremonies are sure-to-be epic — Matt Lauer
and Meredith Vieira are emceeing for the American crowd, with Bob
Costas anchoring the ceremony from the International Broadcast Center.
The actual performers and high-quality hijinks have been kept under
serious wraps, but The Telegraph reports that 15 buildings, six trains,
and six bridges will be built on the stage of the stadium for the event.
Um, count us in.
The
livestream from the Fisht Olympic Stadium in Sochi — a gorgeous venue
specifically designed to give viewers a clear shot of mountain peaks in
the north and the sea in the south — will be available online, if you’re
crafty. NBC is streaming everything but the Opening Ceremonies on their
website (boo), but livestreams can be found if you use a VPN (virtual
private network) service online. However, you can also tune in to the
NBC broadcast with the rest of the country to get a clearer picture (and
host a fun Friday night party with your friends).
Of
course, the Opening Ceremony isn’t the true beginning of the Games.
Fans will be treated to prime-time coverage Thursday, Feb. 6 of actual
events, including snowboarding with Shaun White and team figure skating.
These, of course, will be streamed live on NBC’s site.
What
do you think, HollywoodLifers? Will you be watching with Matt,
Meredith, and Bob during primetime, or with us Olympics freaks via
livestream? Who are you most excited to see? Let us know your thoughts
in the comments!
